I am back from my weekend vacation. My son and I traveled to Caulfield, MO, where a few weeks ago I preached a revival for my old friend and former employer, Ron DeGonia. Ron is an interesting man. A former rodeo bull rider, bull fighter, animal trainer, construction contractor, cattle rancher and now a pastor. His days of animal training included training an English stag deer for the Hartford Insurance commercials of the early 70’s, and training a bear for Hamm’s beer commercials. He owns about 500 acres of ranch land and that is where my son Matthew and I camped for the weekend.
Matthew is a good deer spotter and he always sees them before I do. Saturday afternoon he and I were sitting in a tree stand when he spotted a large buck trotting right in our direction. He tapped on the leg and whispered, “Hey Dad, there’s a deer!” The shot resulted in quick kill. The deer was a 9 point which weighed about 200 lbs.
The next morning we worshiped with Pastor Ron and his wonderful church. Thanks to all who prayed for us and I am looking forward to getting back to my work!
